The hunt
Search 25 stars for hidden planets
Claim a slice, run the open-source pipeline on your computer, and it sends the results back by itself. Your computer does the heavy lifting; the site cross-checks everyone's results. Have an AI assistant with a terminal? It can do all of this for you.
1 · One-time setup (5 minutes)
You need Python 3.10 or newer, about 1 GB of free disk space and an internet connection. Mac, Linux and Windows all work.
Unzip it, open a terminal in the folder, then:
python3 -m venv .venv source .venv/bin/activate # Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate pip install -r requirements.txt python cosmohunt.py selftest # checks everything works (~2 min, prints PASS)
2 · Claim a slice and run it
Sign in or create a free account to claim stars.
3 · Only if the automatic upload failed
Normally there is nothing to do here. If the pipeline said the upload failed, run python cosmohunt.py upload slice-S-0123.json, or choose the cosmosift-bundle-….json file it made:
Sign in to upload.
The pipeline only downloads public NASA data from the MAST archive and uploads a small results file. It never touches anything else on your computer.
